Waterfall Wednesday: Purakaunui Falls, New Zealand

Each week, Recreation News takes you to a new waterfall in the Mid-Atlantic. But, these week we’re going a little bit out of our coverage area to visit a majestic New Zealand waterfall, Purakaunui Falls.

Location: New Zealand17440811711_afcd44a0fd_h

Height: 66 feet

The falls are one of the most photographed in New Zealand. An asy walk to the waterfall’s lookout and unique beauty make this falls one of the best places to visit with the your family.

The walk, which is a true New Zealand walking track, leads you through the native forest, crosses the Purakaunui River via a footbridge then goes to wooden stairs. The stairs follow to the waterfall’s lookout with a beautiful view of the falls. Read more here.

How to get there:

Purakaunui Falls is roughly a 1.5-2 hours’ drive away from either Invercargill or Dunedin. The road surface is sealed, which becomes a gravel road for the last 2 km.
