Romance and fun are nothing new in Chesapeake Beach, a Southern Maryland community located on the Chesapeake Bay. In the late 1800s, the resort town featured beachfront hotels, a race track, casino, and an entertainment center built over the water. In 1900, a new railroad brought fun-seekers from Washington to enjoy the bay and lively entertainment.
Although the Great Depression and increasing popularity of the automobile brought an end to the railroad in the 1930s, you can enjoy the town’s romance and history today thanks to public-spirited entrepreneurs such as Gerald Donovan. His Rod ‘N’ Reel Restaurant and Marina, established in 1946, helped form the Chesapeake Beach Resort & Spa when those facilities were built in 2004.
Check out the Romance package this winter.
You can enjoy a Romance package getaway anytime that includes overnight accommodations for two, chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne, and a $75 resort voucher (valid at Smokey Joe’s Grill, Rod ‘N’ Reel, Hotel Sundry Shop, The Tackle Shop, and Chesapeake Amusements).
The package starts at $249 per night, based on availability and other restrictions.
Romance package guests can also enjoy Smokey Joe’s Grill’s Surf & Turf special for $17.99.
If you’re looking to take the kids on a winter getaway, ask about the Family Winter Getaway, which includes accommodations, logo beach ball, $25 resort voucher, and two milkshakes at Smokey Joe’s Café.
The resort honors the town’s railroad heritage with a miniature train that circulates through the parking lot.
If you visit when the weather is warmer, take in the Railway Museum in the old rail station and the Railway Trail, a boardwalk nature trail that extends along Fishing Creek and includes interpretive signs to help identify the plants and animals of the wetland area.
The town also features a water park and public beach. Anglers can take advantage of the largest fleet of charter boats on the bay, moored at the resort’s marina.
